Regional Director of Special Education

The regional director of special education programs provides strategic leadership for special education and related student support services across a region of up to 15 schools. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction, legal compliance, and individualized support for students receiving special education, Section 504, English Learner/Emergent Bilingual services, dyslexia intervention, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), and Critical Student Intervention (CSI). The director also supervises regional special programs staff, partners with school and district leaders, and works to improve student achievement through effective systems, coaching, and collaboration.

This leader builds the capacity of principals, regional administrators, and special programs teams by providing ongoing professional development, coaching, and resources. The position oversees the implementation of individualized student plans, supports instructional planning and compliance, monitors program effectiveness, and uses data to identify improvement opportunities. Working closely with senior regional leadership, the Regional Director helps establish priorities, evaluates student performance trends, develops action plans, and ensures schools consistently meet academic and compliance goals.

Additional responsibilities include overseeing special programs budgets and funding, coordinating contracted service providers, monitoring documentation and state reporting requirements, and ensuring all compliance deadlines are met. The Regional Director also manages and develops regional special programs staff, supports campus leaders with staffing and operational decisions, and promotes continuous improvement through strategic planning, data analysis, and responsive leadership. Success in this role requires strong decision-making, team leadership, communication, relationship-building, and the ability to foster a culture of accountability and continuous learning.

This is a full-time, on-site position based in Houston with travel throughout the region as needed. Candidates should hold a bachelor's degree, an appropriate state certification, and have at least two years of successful teaching or related professional experience in a certified educational specialty such as school psychology, educational diagnostics, or speech-language pathology. Experience improving special education outcomes, managing compliance, and coaching instructional staff is required, while a master's degree and additional certifications are preferred. Key Qualifications:

-Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred

-Valid in-state teaching certification or certification as a School Psychologist, Educational Diagnostician, or Speech-Language Pathologist

-Minimum of two years of successful teaching or related professional experience

-Proven success improving special education student outcomes

-Experience managing compliance and providing instructional coaching

-ESL certification, Direct Instruction Decoding knowledge, and ELA expertise are preferred
