To whom it may concern,
My name is Zac Favreau Smith, I am a 2020 graduate from the University of Vermont with a degree in Secondary Education and a focus in the social sciences. I am currently licensed to teach both middle and high school social studies in Vermont and North Carolina. I believe I would be a valuable member of your teaching staff if given the opportunity, because of my passion for education, as well as my ability to foster meaningful relationships with both my students and colleagues.
During the past semester, I have served as a long term Humanities substitute as well as a building substitute at Edmunds Middle School, in Burlington, Vermont. During these positions, I gained extremely valuable experience in a variety of roles within the school community. As a long term humanities substitute, I had the opportunity to experience firsthand the day to day responsibilities of a classroom teacher. Some of these responsibilities included fostering a passionate learning community, designing and implementing a humanities curriculum and grading students work based on state and local standards. After this position, I transitioned to being a fulltime building substitute, which provided me the opportunity to learn the inner workings of the middle school. I have spent time functioning as a special educator, classroom teacher for multiple subjects, exploratory teacher as well as a paraeducator. Being able to learn and understand these roles has challenged my understanding of how a school community functions, and has greatly grown my appreciation for how many pieces must come together and work harmoniously in order to provide students with the best education possible. Based on my experiences thus far, as well as my dedication to continuing to be the best educator I can be, I believe that I could positively contribute to your learning community.
Working with students, both as a part of my college experience as well as the beginning of my professional career, has enforced a greater passion for my career in education. I cannot wait to continue my journey in this profession, and am looking forward to having the opportunity to positively impact the young people in my community.
