I graduated from Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Minors in Spanish, Secondary Education, and Women’s and Gender Studies. Throughout college and beyond, I have dedicated myself to public service (particularly with language learners and special populations) as I studied, worked, and volunteered in education programs. I completed my student teaching in an 8th grade Reading Mastery classroom. For three years, in my university’s work-study program, I worked at a Presbyterian elementary/middle school for children with learning differences such as dyslexia, ADD, and dysgraphia. I served as a teacher assistant and a Math and English tutor, helping out in the classroom with preparation and instruction, grading worksheets, and providing individualized instruction. I also served as an ESL volunteer in Dallas ISD, tutoring students who had beginning level language proficiency (some of whom were refugees and new immigrants). At my university, I mentored in an ESL graduate class for international students, and shortly after I worked as a facilitator in a program aimed at providing support and educational content/exploration for young people in in the inner city.

I have worked as a full-time teacher at Title One schools in Dallas ISD, teaching three classes (Reading, Reading ESL, and Poetry) and in Houston ISD, teaching English III and English III AP. These experiences allowed me to diligently and patiently teach, interact with, and be inspired by diverse students of varying cultural and economic backgrounds, learning styles, and language proficiencies in order to promote their development. Furthermore, these experiences allowed me to cultivate creative, organizational, and communication proficiency through my consistent and diligent making of lessons plans; synthesis throughout lessons and units; etc.

I am available from 8 am - 12 pm. My goals include increased proficiency and mastery in writing, copyediting, and journalism.
