As a fourth grade teacher, I helped my school become a National Blue Ribbon School, a Gold Star School and a National School of Character. During my tenure, fourth-grade proficiency in reading and math improved to nearly 90% as measured by state exams. Those reading scores aren't just good, they ranked in the top five statewide.
Teaching is one of the great joys in my life. Seeing the progression from confused
to frustrated, then on to the telltale smile of success, is just about as good as it gets.
I have been a teacher for over a decade, with experience all across the
adolescent education spectrum. I’ve worked with preschoolers on learning their colors
and high school seniors preparing to debate the merits of the social safety net. I’ve
worked with children who are performing years beyond their grade level and simply
need a challenge, and still with others years behind who desperately need someone to
help them catch up.
I have worked in Special Education with students of all abilities and gifts, been a targeted interventionist that helps catch-up struggling students, and worked as a substitute teacher at every age from preK through high school. I've had 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade classrooms and coached high school debate.
More important than any of that, though, is that I know how to connect with students. No child will be successful in a situation where they don't feel like their tutor knows them or genuinely likes them. The job is to earn their trust, build their confidence, and build their skills. I'd be thrilled to have the opportunity to work with your child.
