I am Maryam, a resident of Tehran and native Persian speaker. I tailor lessons to your individual needs, whether beginning the journey of the Persian language and culture or developing fluency for academic purposes. I can help with basic terminologies, idiomatic expressions and structures for various disciplines as diverse as history, literature, psychology and media.
Iranian is one of the oldest cultures and, along with Persian, has been a source of inspiration for artists across the world for a thousand years. Share the beauty of Iran with your family, from the magnificent poetry and teachings of Saadi’s reflections on the dervishes and benefits of silence to Khayyam’s quest for meaning and joy of living in moments.
Many teaching methods are ineffectual and boring. Learning a language can be difficult, especially with the distractions of western influences. In my teaching, I design creative lesson plans and incorporate games, poetry, arts, music and storytelling to create a cheerful atmosphere and promote learning at the same time.
Iran’s exquisite landscapes are spectacular; follow the red poppy fields up to the summit Damavand, the highest peak in the Middle East and enjoy the magical feast of colors on the horizon. Laton waterfalls, in Astara provide pleasurable walking trails through the woods and over the hills. Sip charcoal-heated tea in the wooden cabins. Geshm, the largest island in the Persian Gulf, has unique natural wonders from the magical rock formations and canyons to the stone statues, and ancient wells.
It is a great pleasure for me to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and share with them Persian and Iranian culture. I hold online classes via Skype with clients from every experience level and nationality. My rate is $35 per lesson, with a special discount of 50 % for the first session. If you know of anyone who would appreciate the gift of Persian, I am at your service.
Biography
When I was at high school, I had a great passion for Persian literature and was deeply absorbed in reading poetry and novels. At that time, I was also learning English, at the English language department. I graduated with a MELAB degree in 2008 from the Academic center of education, culture and research. Utilizing my knowledge of Persian literature and English language, I decided to expand my horizons and study European and western literature. I began studying English language and literature for my BA. in 2009, and graduated from Shahid Beheshti University with a Master of Arts degree in 2018. I have many studies and research in ‘comparative literature’ and ‘literary criticism’, such as allegorical study of ‘Bunyan & Attar’, ‘Freydun and King Lear’, panegyrics in ‘Saadi and Shakespeare’, ‘Shahnameh and Beowulf’, and skepticism in ‘Khayyam & Graves’.
Also, as a TESOL certified instructor, I have been teaching English for many years. I teach classes from early starters to the most advanced levels. I have also taken some EAP courses at colleges to prepare students for academic purposes and help them develop their IELTS, TOEFL, TELP and MSRT scores.
