This meant that universities offering Farsi courses increased by 80% in the years 2002 to 2006. Because knowing Farsi is considered a requisite skill for an increasing amount of government jobs in defense, intelligence, and Homeland Security, applicants for government funding may be asked to work a minimum of 2 years for the government after graduation.
