JOB DESCRIPTION

A virtual middle school is seeking a full-time remote secondary social studies teacher for the upcoming current school year. This position is best suited for educators who hold a Virginia Secondary Social Studies Teaching License and are passionate about delivering high-quality virtual instruction. Although candidates living in Virginia are strongly preferred, qualified applicants from Maryland and Washington, D.C. may also be considered. While the role is primarily work-from-home, teachers must attend required in-person professional development sessions, state testing, and other school events throughout the year.

As an online educator, you will provide engaging live and self-paced instruction while supporting students through a personalized learning experience. Using the learning management system, you will monitor academic progress, differentiate instruction to meet individual learning needs, maintain accurate student records, and prepare students for standardized assessments. Success in this role also depends on developing strong relationships with students, parents, and learning coaches through consistent communication and ongoing academic support.

This position requires an independent, organized professional who can work a full-time schedule of approximately 40 or more hours per week from a dedicated home office. Teachers collaborate with administrators and fellow educators, analyze student performance data to guide instruction, and remain flexible as they adapt to new technologies and instructional practices. Occasional travel—typically about once per month or up to 20% of the time—is required for school events, testing, and professional development.

Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree, an active state teaching license, and successfully complete a background check. Experience teaching middle or high school students in virtual or traditional classrooms, working with online learning platforms, supporting families with educational technology and using student data to improve instruction is highly preferred. The position offers a starting base salary of $50,000, along with eligibility for a performance-based bonus.
