What is LRNGO?
HELP/FAQs

FAQs for Teachers
How do I create a free profile on the site?
Just click on this link, or go to the LRNGO homepage and click on the Free Sign Up button in the upper right hand corner of the header.
Do I need to create an account login?
Yes. To post a free teacher profile, first you will fill out the free signup form. Then you will receive an email (please check your spam folder) with your free account login information. You will need to click the link in the email to confirm and make your profile live. Then you can login to your free account at any time to edit and update your profile.
How do I activate my profile?
After you fill out the free signup form and click submit, you will receive an email with a link to activate your profile. The link will be sent to the email address you used to signup. If you don't see the email in your in box, please check your spam folder and check your email settings to make sure you can receive emails from LRNGO.com.
How do I edit my profile?
In order to edit your profile, login to LRNGO. After you have logged in, you will be on your My LRNGO (My Account) page. Click on "Edit My Profile" on the left hand side. You will see all of the information fields pre-filled with the current information that you gave when you signed up and created your profile. Simply make any changes to complete or edit your profile. Then continue to the bottom of the 3rd page and click the Submit button to save the changes.
Why can't I see changes I made to my profile?
When you click on Edit My Profile on your My LRNGO page, you can make changes or add to any of the information you see. However, if you don't continue to Step 3 and press the Submit button at the bottom of that page, none of your changes will be saved. Then your profile will look the same. Make sure that if you want to save your changes when you edit your profile, you continue to Step 3 and scroll to the bottom and press the Submit button. Then you will see the changes.
How do I see the public view of my profile?
Log out and go to the homepage. Then type in what you teach (or what you teach and learn if you are doing free exchange) and your zip code in the search bar. Press the search button. Keep scrolling through results until you see your profile. When you see your profile, this is what the public will see. Please note that profiles with pictures come up first, so you may have to scroll for a while if you teach a popular subject in a highly populated area and you don't have a picture.
Do I have to be a professional teacher to use LRNGO?
No. Many users and members are professional classroom teachers, but it is not required. Some employers are looking for professional classroom teachers and some are not. However, if you become a paid member and apply to jobs, we ask that you please respect employer guidelines and do not apply unless you meet their basic requirements.
Do I need to pay to create an account?
No. You are NOT required to pay to create a free account. A free account allows you to sign-up and post a teacher profile to advertise your private teaching services locally to the public near you, and to the entire world if you teach online lessons. A free account allows you to be contacted and to respond to users who contact you. It does not allow you to contact others first (ie: it does not allow you to initiate contact). To apply to jobs, contact potential employers or other users through LRNGO, receive job alerts, contact support, post classes, exchange free lessons, access & submit articles or access 24hr English, you will need to become a member.
What does it cost to use LRNGO?
Nothing for a basic profile searchable by the general public. A basic profile to advertise your teaching services to the local public near you and online worldwide is completely free. If you want to apply to jobs, contact employers or other users, receive & send messages without publicly displaying your contact information, receive job alerts, post classes or articles, exchange free lessons or contact LRNGO for support, you must become a member. Membership is $25/trial (1 month), $35/basic (2 months) or $45/premium (3 months). Membership is NOT automatically recurring, so you have complete control of your membership at all times. You will automatically stop being a member when your membership expires, unless you decide to make another payment to continue your membership. You still keep your free profile when you stop being a member, so you never have to start over to create your free profile and sign up again. If your membership expires, you can pay anytime to become a member again using the same profile information.
How do I become a member?
If you already have a free account, just login and click on any of the Join Now buttons on the website. If you don't have a free account, click on any Sign Up or Join Now button (except the one that says Free Sign Up).
What are the benefits of membership?
You can receive and send messages without publicly displaying your personal contact information, contact other users, access the job board and apply to jobs. With Premium level (3 months) membership, you can also apply to unlimited & Featured jobs, contact unlimited employers, receive job alerts, post classes & articles, receive expedited LRNGO support, apply to Feature your profile, find practice partners to engage in free exchange, and access 24hr English. If you are a member and you have questions, you can always contact LRNGO at any time for support. (Premium member support is expedited.)
What are the three levels of membership?
All three levels of membership require a one-time payment to become a member. Billing is NOT automatically recurring, so you always have complete control over your membership. Your membership will stop automatically, unless you choose to pay again to renew. However, you will keep your free profile, so you can continue using the site and you don't have to start over. You can always pay again any time to become a member using your free profile information. The first level of membership is the Trial level for $25 (1 month). You can access the job board, apply to up to 20 jobs, contact up to 20 employers or other users, and receive & send messages without publicly displaying your contact information. The second level of membership is the Basic level for $35 (2 months). You can access the job board, apply to up to 40 jobs, contact up to 40 employers or other users, and receive & send messages without publicly displaying your contact information. The third level of membership is the Premium level for $45 (3 months). You can access the job board, apply to unlimited jobs, contact unlimited employers, apply to Featured jobs, receive job alerts, contact and message unlimited users, receive expedited LRNGO support, apply to Feature your profile, find practice partners or engage in free exchange, post classes, post articles, access 24hr English, and receive & send messages without publicly displaying your contact information. If you are a member and you have questions, you can always contact LRNGO at any time for support. (Premium member support is expedited.) Members and non-members must all abide by the website Terms of Use.
How do I continue or discontinue my membership?
All three levels of membership require a one-time payment to become a member. To discontinue your membership after it expires, you don't have to do anything. Your membership will automatically discontinue when it expires after either 1 month (Trial), 2 months (Basic), or 3 months (Premium) from the time you paid, unless you renew. Billing is NOT automatically recurring, so you always have complete control of your membership. Although your membership will discontinue automatically when it expires, you will keep your free profile so you can become a member again at any time you wish. To continue your membership, login (or if you are already logged in, go to your My LRNGO/My Account page). At the bottom of your My LRNGO page, you can see when your membership is currently due to expire. Right next to that information is a button that says Continue/Extend My Membership. You can extend your membership at anytime by logging in and clicking on Continue/Extend My Membership at the bottom of your My LRNGO (My Account) page. When your membership is getting close to expiring, you will also receive an email with a link to login reminding you that unless you choose to continue by making a payment, your membership will automatically expire soon. Although your membership will stop automatically, you will keep your free profile so you can become a member again any time you wish. Please be aware there are no membership options for less than 1 month, and there are no refunds if you delete your profile or otherwise wish not to use your membership prior to the time that your membership expires. For more information about our refund policy, please see our Terms of Use.
Can I upgrade my membership?
Yes, but there is no way to upgrade your current membership while you are still a member unless you make another payment. You have to either extend your current membership by making another payment at the new level, wait until your current membership expires and then become a member again at the new level, or delete your profile (discontinuing your membership is non-refundable) then create a new profile and pay again at the new level. (This is not recommended.) When you are no longer a member, you can always start another membership at a different level using your free profile at any time. To change your current membership level by extending your membership, login (if you are already logged in, click on the My LRNGO link in the header). At the bottom of your My LRNGO page, you can see when your membership is currently due to expire. Right next to that information is a button that says Continue/Extend My Membership. Click on Continue/Extend My Membership and choose the level of membership that you prefer. Then make your payment. Your current membership will now change to the new level you chose, and your membership will be extended by the appropriate amount of time.
Can I upgrade my membership at any time?
Yes, but the only way to upgrade your current membership while you are still a member is to make an additional payment. Otherwise, you have to wait until your current membership expires and then start another membership at a different level. To upgrade your membership now while you are still a member, you can change your current level by extending your membership. Login (if you are already logged in, click on the My LRNGO link in the header), and at the bottom of your My LRNGO page, you will see when your membership is currently due to expire. Right next to that information is a button that says Continue/Extend My Membership. Click on Continue/Extend My Membership, and choose the level of membership that you prefer. Then make your payment. Your current membership will now change to the new level you chose, and your membership will be extended by the appropriate amount of time.

What are the guidelines for creating a profile? (What is not allowed?)
  • 1. You must be 18 years of age or over to create a profile or use LRNGO. Those over 14 are allowed to browse the website only with direct parental supervision.
  • 2. You are not allowed to sign up and create a teacher profile unless you can be contacted through your profile as an individual. If you are a recruiter, company or school creating a profile as an individual using an email or phone number that does not go directly to the individual listed, your profile will be removed. If your profile represents a company, organization, or school rather than the individual teacher listed and that is where your contact information goes, you must go through Advertise to use LRNGO.
  • 3. You are not allowed to have more than one profile, regardless of whether it is registered under another name or another email address. Only one profile per person.
  • 4. You are not allowed to post inappropriate content or redirect to inappropriate content that does not meet our guidelines as defined in our Terms of Use. Inappropriate content includes profanity, racial slurs, false information, false claims, and any content that is blatantly offensive or of a harassing nature to others. LRNGO.com reserves the right to remove, edit, or ban any user profile or portion thereof from this website at any time for any reason and without notice.
  • 5. If you have paid to become a member and violate our Terms of Use, your membership will be canceled and your payment WILL NOT be refunded.
About Me Box Guidelines
The "About Me" box on your profile is where you can write whatever you want people to know about yourself, including information about your experience, credentials, scheduling or availability, and/or really anything you want, as long as it doesn't conflict with our Terms of Use. The "About Me" box allows plain text only. Please be aware that any information you show on your profile will be public, therefore you may elect to protect yourself against spam emails by not listing your email address. However, unless you are a paid member, you will need to list at least one form of contact information somewhere publicly on your profile if you wish to be contacted. The only way to be contacted for a non-member is to post one or more types of contact information to the general public. If you are a member, potential employers and students can contact you through the contact form on your profile page. An active link to send people directly to your website of choice is also available if you are a member, as well as optional social icons linking to your pages on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn and YouTube.
How do I add a picture?
Profiles with pictures come up first in search results and improve your chances when applying to jobs. Profiles with pictures are also 20x more likely to be contacted. This is because they appear more reliable to prospective employers and students when they see that you are a real person. If you wish to add a picture, login and click on Edit My Profile and then upload your picture on page 3. If you wish to change your profile picture, you will need to replace it with another suitable picture in order for your profile to be shown, or check the box for no picture to come up last in search results. A suitable picture is a photo of your actual face in a file size not exceeding 4MB that does not conflict with our Terms of Use. For additional suggestions and guidance regarding pictures and employment, please see our Blog.
Profile Picture Guidelines
Profile pictures must be a frontal photo of your actual face, and cannot include other people's faces. When you browse and upload your profile picture, the photo will automatically crop to fit specifications. Photo file sizes are limited to 4MB. If you don't like the way your picture looks, try uploading it again or try uploading another photo. Uploading a photo that is not your actual face, including a photo of a child, famous person, cartoon, drawing, object, body part other than your face, partial or covered face, or the face of any other person who is not you, is not allowed and your profile may be removed. Unfortunately, we do not always have the capacity to offer technical support for free users. If you are a member and you are having trouble uploading your photo, please Contact Us for support. For additional suggestions and guidance regarding pictures and employment, please see our Blog.
What are the rules & guidelines for uploading my resume?
You can upload an existing resume to your profile. To do this, your resume needs to be a PDF file. Your PDF resume will be searchable and downloadable by employers and families who post jobs, but it will not be immediately viewable when they click on your profile. The resume can only be viewed by a member when it is searched and downloaded. Although the resume icon will be visible on your profile to the general public (ie: the fact that you have a resume will show), your resume will NOT be viewable or accessible to the general public. Please remember that any personal contact information you decide to include in your resume, while not available to the general public or visible on your profile, will be available to members to download so that potential employers can contact you. Please see our Safety Precautions
How do I change my password?
Login, and you will be on your My LRNGO (My Account) page. If you can't remember your current password to login, click on Forgot password? and a new temporary password will be emailed to you at the email address you used to sign up. (If you don't see the email, check your spam folder and check your email settings to make sure you can receive emails from LRNGO.com.) On your My LRNGO (My Account) page, click on Personal Settings on the left under your picture. Then change your password and click submit.
How do I delete my profile?
Do not delete your profile if you are a paid member. Deleting your profile will permanently discontinue your membership and this cannot be undone. Deleting your profile and discontinuing your membership is non-refundable. If you are a paid member and are not happy with your profile, we recommend editing it instead. If you are a paid member and you are having trouble editing your profile, Contact Us for support. After your membership expires, your profile will continue as a free profile and you can delete it anytime you wish. If you wish to delete your free profile, just login (or if you are already logged in, click on My LRNGO in the header) and click on Personal Settings. Then click on Delete My Profile at the bottom. Your profile will be deleted and your account will be permanently removed.
Is my address shown on my profile?
You are not required to display your address, and your physical address is NOT shown on your profile unless you check the box that says display physical address on my profile. Although your address is not disclosed, it is used in our search algorithm as a general radius when employers or students search for a teacher in their area. Teachers show up higher in search results according to how far they are from employers & students, and teachers with pictures come up first. The radius that you are willing to travel is NOT factored into our search results. The map shown on your profile page shows only an approximate location of where you are to protect your privacy. If you want to show a physical address on your profile, you can either check the box to display your physical address, or include it as contact information in the "About Me" box, or create and upload your resume with the information included there. Please remember you must be responsible for any decision to show your location or personal contact information in public view. See our Safety Tips.
Is my email address shown on my profile?
No, by default your email address is not shown on your profile to protect your privacy. When you create a login on our site, your username is the email address you used to create your profile. When you sign up to create a profile, we only use your email address to contact you about important matters. If you are a paid member, employers and students can contact you through the contact form on your profile rather than directly at your email address. If you are not a member, you will need to post your email or some other contact information on your profile publicly if you want to be contacted by the general public who search on LRNGO. If you want to show your email address or an alternative email address publicly on your profile, you can also include it as information in the "About Me" box. Please remember that any personal contact information you elect to show will be public.
Is my last name shown on my profile?
No, only your last initial is shown to protect your privacy. If you want to make your last name public to those who search for instruction, you can include it as information in the "About Me" box. If you want to disclose your last name to members only for the purpose of applying for jobs, you can upload your resume and include it there. Please remember you are solely responsible for any personal contact information that you elect to show on the internet to the general public.
Is my phone number shown on my profile?
You can include your phone number if you wish, but we do not require you to provide your phone number to sign up. It is completely optional. You can choose to show your phone number on your profile to the public, but it is totally up to you. If you do, we will never contact you by phone unless requested by you or unless there is a serious matter. If you want to show your contact phone number in a less conspicuous place on your profile for the purpose of applying for jobs, you can upload your resume and include the information there where it can only be accessed by paid members. At your option, you can also include it for the public to see in the "About Me" box. Please remember that any personal contact information you elect to show on your profile will be visible to the public, and you assume all risks for your decision to do so.
If I don't want to show my email or phone number on my profile, how do prospective students contact me?
If you are a paid member, every profile page has a contact button on the right hand side and prospective employers and students can contact you through LRNGO. The message will then be forwarded to the email address you used during registration without disclosing your email address publicly. You can continue to message anonymously through LRNGO, or disclose your email address to employers or students directly if and when you choose. As a member, you will also have the option to contact and reply to prospective employers about jobs that interest you. Lastly, you can upload your resume, which can only be viewed and accessed by employer members. If you are not a paid member, you must display some form of contact information on your profile publicly for prospective students and employers to be able to contact you and communicate with you. Otherwise, you will not be able to be reached or contacted.
Can the public download my resume?
No. Only paid members can view, upload, download or access resumes on LRNGO. If you are not a member, you will need to post your contact information on your profile so it is viewable to the general public if you want people to be able to contact you. Please see our Safety Tips.
How do I apply for jobs?
Only LRNGO members can post and apply to jobs. If you are a member, login and click on Job Board or Teachers Wanted in the header of the homepage. Scroll down to search for jobs, and click on a job you are interested in. Then click on the Apply Now button. The employer's email address will show or a link will take you to an application form, unless the job is no longer accepting applications. If the employer's email address shows, apply or respond by sending an email directly to the employer's email address. You can either attach and email your resume (your contact information can be included in your resume), or send a question or letter of interest to learn more about the position. If you choose not to email your resume initially to apply, we recommend including a link to your LRNGO profile or at least including information about your experience and credentials in the body of your email. Since the employer knows nothing about you, you will likely need to send some information about your background to catch the employer's interest. Please Note: LRNGO has no control over employer actions or hiring decisions, and cannot guarantee that you will receive any response or desired outcome. Please also see our Safety Practices and remember to take common sense precautions as you normally would both online and off when meeting potential employers or their families for the first time.
Why can't I apply to a job?
Only LRNGO members can apply to jobs. Either you have not become a LRNGO member, your membership has expired, or you have a Trial or Basic membership and reached your limit. (Premium members have no limit and can apply to unlimited jobs.) In addition, you cannot apply to Featured jobs with a Trial or Basic membership because Featured jobs have limits on the number of applicants they will accept. (Only Premium members can apply to Featured jobs.) Also in some instances, a job may not be accessible because it is temporarily paused until further notice. If that is the case, the employer decided to pause the position temporarily and is not currently accepting applications, and you will see this notice. You should check back at a later time, or move on to another position.
Why does an employer pause a job if it is not yet filled?
An employer may have temporarily paused applications for a job that is not yet filled for many reasons. For instance:

A lot of candidates applied and the employer needs to review a lot of resumes and/or interview current applicants before opening the job up again to additional candidates.

The employer may be waiting to hear back about information that will change the details of the job, and does not wish to continue accepting applications until that information has been confirmed and decisions have been made.

The employer may have paused the job while making a decision between two or more candidates to present an offer.

The employer may have made an offer to a candidate and is waiting for a response either to accept or decline.

The employer may have hired a candidate but there is currently a trial period. (Most trial periods generally last anywhere from 1 to 8 weeks.)

The position may have been filled very recently (within 48 hours or less), and the employer had paused the position already but hasn't yet deleted the job.

Please feel free to check back on the status of any job that is temporarily paused and is not accepting applications. In the meantime, we encourage you to apply to other jobs that are open and currently accepting applicants.
Why is there a limit on the number of subjects that a teacher can list?
We know there are many multi-talented and capable teachers who teach more than 5 or 10 subjects in addition to those who only focus on one! However, for search purposes, we would like you to focus primarily on your main area of expertise, the age group of students you mostly teach, and the types of jobs you mainly wish to apply for rather than listing many individual subjects. This way, prospective employers and students are able to conduct a more functional search, and they are more assured that teachers really want to teach what is listed. Of course, after establishing an initial relationship, you may reveal or uncover other skills which others may want to explore, but we recommend using these choices as a starting point. If there are other subjects or sub-categories that you wish to show, we recommend that you include that information in the "About Me" box and possibly your resume. That way those who search will know that you also teach those additional subjects, and they can factor in that knowledge when making their decision to contact you.
What if I teach lessons online?
If you teach lessons online and wish to advertise your online teaching services outside of your local area, click on the "I also teach lessons online" box when editing your profile. This allows your profile to be shown in search results in multiple locations around the world to students who may not have teachers in their immediate area. Your profile will also come up in search results in other locations AFTER teachers within a local 50 mile radius. In some cases, a user may be searching for a subject listing with very few teachers or in a rural area where instruction online is the only option. In these cases, you will benefit. We do not facilitate, set up or provide any platform for online instruction on this website, so please make sure you have a way to teach lessons online when making this claim. (In other words, please don't say you are comfortable and experienced teaching lessons online if you don't have a way to do so.)
How can I begin teaching lessons online?
LRNGO does not provide nor require any specific platform for teaching online, so you are free to pick from the many choices on the web and activate yourself. Most instructors use Zoom or some other form of live video chat with a white board. There are many platforms currently for teaching on the web, so make sure to tell users who inquire what you are comfortable using. If you have no prior experience teaching online and would like to learn how, we have many helpful articles on this site. If you are new to teaching remotely, after doing some research and choosing a preferred platform, we would recommend starting by practicing first through Free Exchange. This way, you can avoid negative public feedback or being held accountable for money paid if/when things go wrong while you are building up valuable experience. Then when you are ready, you will be more experienced and confident when charging students and families for professional online teaching and tutoring services.
How do I accept payments?
LRNGO does not facilitate payment transactions or get involved in any way with actual teaching. We only provide a platform to help you find jobs and students, advertise your teaching services, and connect with potential employers. You are free to negotiate as needed, use whatever payment system you wish, and/or charge how you like. Many instructors use Paypal. Some teachers charge up front and some charge after each lesson, while others make different arrangements. Please see our Safety Tips, and always take preliminary cautions to be aware of scams.
What is "What would you like to learn"?
We have a Free Exchange search function for those who wish to teach and learn from each other for free. If you are willing to teach a subject in exchange for learning a subject, list the subjects you are interested in learning under "What would you like to learn." You can browse profiles and learn from others, or they can contact you if they want to learn a subject you teach and can teach a subject you want to learn. In other words, you can learn from each other for free by exchanging your expertise using time for time. (For instance: I'll teach you English for an hour if you teach me Spanish for an hour.) If you are interested in the possibility of learning a subject from someone in exchange for teaching them one of your subjects, please indicate what subjects you would like to learn. Your learn subjects will not show on your teacher profile when people search for private teachers, it will only show if they search for free exchange. If you choose at least one subject under "What would you like to learn" (you may choose up to 10), your profile will also automatically be listed in Free Exchange. Your profile in Free Exchange search will be identical to your Private Instructor profile except rates are not shown in Free Exchange, and subjects you would like to learn in exchange for something you can teach will show. Subjects you would like to learn are only shown in your profile when searching under Free Exchange. For more information about how Free Exchange works, see FAQs for Free Exchange.

Posting classes that violate our Terms of Use may cause your membership to be canceled and your payment WILL NOT be refunded. Please go to our CLASSifieds page and click the Post Your Class button for more information.
Why do I see a temporary 24 hour limit notice?
We use occasional daily limits to protect users and their personal information. Daily limits on functions such as contacts and resume downloads can help us to monitor and prevent spam and unethical recruiting practices, enforce Terms & Conditions, maintain system stability, ensure fair usage for everyone, and encourage meaningful interactions over mass automation. Protecting users while safeguarding platform integrity is our highest priority. These limits help prevent overwhelming users and the service, leading to better user experience and platform security.
Safety Tips
The overwhelming majority of people who use LRNGO are trustworthy and well-intentioned. However, it is always very important to take common sense precautions as you normally would in any situation online or off. Trust your instincts. If you're going somewhere to meet someone new for the first time, tell a friend or family member where you're going and take your cell phone along if you have one. If you are not comfortable yet meeting in a home, start with a video chat first or meet in a public place.

While LRNGO seeks to create a safe place for teachers and potential employers & families with students to meet on the internet, LRNGO cannot be responsible for losses from inaccurate job post information or guarantee outcomes, and does not mediate disputes between employers and you or between you and anyone who may contact you, and cannot otherwise be responsible in any way for the actions of anyone who contacts you, including guaranteeing safety, results or satisfaction from teaching as a result of being contacted. We are not an agency, and are not involved in any way in transactions between you and any other individual or you and any potential new or existing employer.

Avoid Scams

If you receive a suspicious looking job request through our site, please be aware that it could be a scam. These scams are unfortunately common throughout the internet, and our site is occasionally a target as well. The good news is that often they are easy to spot, and once you know what to look for, you can better protect yourself and help keep scammers away from LRNGO.

Emails posing to be from LRNGO

Proceed with caution if you receive an email claiming to be officially from LRNGO requesting funds without taking you to LRNGO.com or your My Account page, or asking for passwords, social security numbers or any other type of personal information. LRNGO will NEVER email to ask you for your password or personal information or to make a payment without first going through www.LRNGO.com.

Always check the URL of any potentially suspicious site. LRNGO should contain the phrase www.lrngo.com or www.LRNGO.com with no misspellings. If the email directs you to a site that is called something like www.LNRGO.com or www.LGRNOXY.com or www.bd/lrngo.com or www.lrngo.pl, report the email and do not respond or click on any links to the site or input any information.

Additionally, after .com there can be slashes but not another period. For example, https://www.lrngo.com/user/login is a legitimate URL because there are only slashes after the ".com". However, https://www.lrngo.com.xyz is NOT a legitimate site because there is a second period following the ".com" and then "xyz".

Employment Scams
One of the most common scams to watch out for is if a "student" or employer, or someone on behalf of a student or employer, wants to send you a fake money order or cashiers check as pre-payment for teaching or tutoring (usually a large amount and often from a foreign location). They will later request a partial refund and hope you refund them with real money before discovering that the money order or cashiers check they sent you is fake.

How to spot a scam:
Many scams involve one or more of the following:
  • Inquiry from someone far away, often in another country
  • Western Union, Money Gram, certified checks, or a money order
  • Inability or refusal to meet face-to-face or via videochat before completing a transaction

Follow these simple rules:
  • Never accept money orders or certified checks (cashier's checks) as payment
  • Never wire someone funds via Western Union or Money Gram, especially to a foreign country
  • Don't deal with clients or students who are reluctant to meet with you in person or speak on the phone or videochat
  • Authenticate the identity of all those you communicate with before making any online transaction or further plans to communicate outside of the website.
  • One way to authenticate whether a person you are communicating with is who they say they are is to contact them directly through their employer (via email or phone), or in some cases directly through LinkedIn.

By working together we can help keep LRNGO safe from scammers!
If you receive a suspicious looking message or email: please Flag it so we can be aware and the user can be blocked from sending messages through our site. This is the number one thing you can do to keep LRNGO safe and prevent scammers.

FAQs for Employers
How do I become a member?
Click on any button or link that says Sign Up, Join Now, Post a Job or Become a Member. If it shows the option, click on the I am a: Employer Looking For Teachers button. You can create and post a job when you sign up to become a member, or you can wait and post a job anytime after you become a member. If that is the case or if you wish to feature your job, you must post your job through Advertise.

How do teachers apply to my job?
Teachers will apply to your job directly through email at the email address you entered when you created your job. They may email you their resume, or a letter of interest to ask questions about the position, or a link to their LRNGO profile. You can then make the choice to ignore their interest, continue communicating with them through LRNGO by logging in and using our messaging system, or continue communicating with them directly via email outside of LRNGO. LRNGO cannot guarantee outcomes or accurate information from teachers, and will not get involved in any way with questions, negotiations or disputes between you and anyone who may contact you, and cannot otherwise be responsible in any way for the actions of anyone who contacts you or accepts your position, including guaranteeing safety, results or satisfaction as a result of being contacted or hired. Please remember to take common sense precautions both online and off. Beware of scams and see our Safety Tips.
Can I change the email address where people apply to my job?
If you wish to change the email address where job applicants will submit their resumes and contact you, you can do so at any time by editing your Job Post. (Some employers prefer to create an email address specifically for their job. However, some employers won't check a new email address often enough, so they prefer to use an existing email.) Note: Editing and submitting changes to your job post will remove your job temporarily for up to 48 hours until the changes are approved.
When does my job post expire?
Job posts expire automatically when your membership expires or after 90 days or when you delete your job--whichever happens first. You can delete your job at any time. Scroll down to the very bottom and click the Delete button.
Can I post more than one job?

You can delete your current job and post another one at any time. To post more than one job at once, you will need to use Advertise.
Do I have to create a profile to post a job?
Yes. You must be a member to post a job, and your profile is created when you become a member. You can keep your profile basic like it is when you first join to become a member, or you can edit it later and change or add information if you choose. You do not need to add information or complete your profile with additional information in order to use your membership to post jobs. It is optional. To edit your profile, login (if you are already logged in, click on My LRNGO in the header), then click on Edit My Profile. Make any changes or add any information you wish, then click the Submit button at the bottom of page 3. Note: Do not delete your profile. Deleting your profile will permanently discontinue your membership and also delete your job. If you delete your profile, it will automatically discontinue your membership, and discontinuing your membership is non-refundable.
How do I edit my profile?
To edit your profile, login (if you are already logged in, click on My LRNGO in the header), then click on Edit My Profile. You do not need to add information or complete your profile with additional information in order to use your membership to post jobs. It is optional.
How do I delete my profile?

If you delete your profile it will automatically discontinue your membership, and discontinuing your membership is non-refundable. You need your profile to edit your job posts on your My LRNGO page. Other than that, you don't need to use your profile for anything unless you want to. If you don't want to use it for anything other than editing your jobs, just keep your profile with the most basic information included when you signed up. (If anyone messages you, you can ignore them or delete the message.) If you are a paid member and are not happy with your profile, we recommend editing instead of deleting it. Deleting your profile and discontinuing your membership is non-refundable. After your membership expires, your profile will continue as a free profile and you can delete it anytime you wish. Just login (or if you are already logged in, click on My LRNGO in the header) and click on Personal Settings. Then click on Delete My Profile at the bottom. Your profile will be deleted and your account will be permanently removed.
How do I change my password?
Login (if you are already logged in click My LRNGO in the header), and you will be on your My LRNGO (My Account) page. If you can't remember your current password to login, click on Forgot password? and a new temporary password will be emailed to you at the email address you used to sign up. On your My LRNGO (My Account) page, click on Personal Settings on the left under your picture. Then change your password and click submit.
How do I contact teachers?
If you have a membership, you can contact any teacher directly using the contact button on their profile page. This sends them an email with your message so they can get back to you through LRNGO messaging. You can also include your direct email address in the message if you wish, so they can contact you directly at your email address rather than going through LRNGO messaging. If you have a job posting, you may want to include a url link to your LRNGO job posting in your message, or tell the teacher where to find it in search results on the LRNGO jobs page. If you have a premium membership, you can also download a teacher's resume and contact the teacher directly. If you search profiles, contact a teacher, download teacher resumes or otherwise use this website, you must abide by the website Terms of Use. Please use common sense precautions when meeting new people as you normally would in any situation online or off. See our Safety Tips.
Can I contact teachers who are not paid members?
Yes, if you are a paid member. If you are a paid member, you can contact any teacher through the website whether they are paid members or not, and they can respond to you. If you are not a paid member, you cannot.
Can I invite teachers who are not members to apply to my job?
Yes, if you are a paid member and you post a job, then you can invite teachers to apply to your job whether they are members or not. You can still message the teacher if the teacher is not a member, and the teacher can still read your job. If you want to consider the non-member teacher for the position and the teacher is interested, you can message the teacher and provide your direct email address so the teacher can email you directly and send you their resume.
How do I sign up for free?
Free signup users cannot post jobs, contact teachers or download resumes, and free signup users will need to post some form of their contact information publicly on the internet to be contacted. Click on the FREE SIGN UP button in the header. Put in your name (only the first initial of your last name is shown), email address, city or zip, and at least one subject you or your family members are looking to learn. If you are looking for a lot of subjects or more general academics, you can list a level or age group like elementary or a type of schooling like homeschool rather than a specific subject. You can also list something you could teach in exchange for what you are looking for (see Free Exchange), but this is optional. After you submit your free sign up form, you will receive a confirmation email to activate your profile. If you don't see it in your email inbox, check your spam folder and check your email settings to make sure you can receive emails from LRNGO.com. Click on the link in the email and then login to complete your profile. (Note: Adding a picture is optional, but profiles without pictures come up last in search results. If you are a paid member and you have trouble uploading your photo, email it to us and we will upload the photo for you.) You can list as much or as little contact information as you like. You can search for teacher profiles and your profile will be visible, however you cannot contact teachers, post jobs, or download resumes unless you become a paid member.
What are the three levels of membership?
All three levels of membership require a one-time payment and expire automatically when the time ends. Since payments are NOT automatically recurring, you have complete control over your membership at all times. The first level of membership is the Trial level for $25 (1 month). You can post one job, receive up to 20 teacher job applicants and contact up to 20 teachers. The second level of membership is the Basic level for $35 (2 months). Members and non-members must all abide by the website Terms of Use.
How do I continue or discontinue my membership?
All three levels of membership require a one-time payment and expire automatically when the time ends. The monthly billing is NOT automatically recurring, so you have complete control over your membership at all times and can easily decide whether you want to continue. Your membership will automatically expire 1, 2 or 3 months from the time you make your payment (depending on the membership level), unless you make an additional payment before your membership expires to extend your membership. To extend your membership, Login (if you are already logged in go to your My LRNGO page) and at the bottom of your My LRNGO page, you will see when your membership is currently due to expire. Right next to that information is a button that says Extend My Membership. You can extend your membership at anytime by logging in and clicking on Extend My Membership at the bottom of your My LRNGO (My Account) page. When your membership is getting close to expiring, you will also receive an email with a payment link reminding you that unless you choose to extend your membership by making a payment, your membership will expire soon. If your membership expires, you will still have your free profile and you can become a member again at any time by making a payment. However, your job post will be permanently deleted, and you will lose all of your job post information.
Can I upgrade my membership?
Yes, but there is no way to upgrade your current membership while you are still a member without making another payment to extend your membership. (You could also wait until your current 30 day membership expires to upgrade your membership. After you are no longer a member, you can pay to start another membership at a different level at any time.) To extend and upgrade your current membership while you are still a member, login (or if you are already logged in, go to your My LRNGO/My Account page). When you click on Continue/Extend My Membership, you can upgrade to the level of membership that you prefer. After you make your payment, your current membership will now change to the new level you chose, and your membership will be extended by the appropriate amount of time.

To upgrade your membership immediately while you are still a member, you will need to extend your membership. How do I hire a teacher or teachers?
First, you should post a job. (See How do I post a job?) After you post a job, teacher applicants will email their resumes directly to you at the email address you posted as your contact information. If an applicant emails you a question or responds without submitting their resume, you can either continue to communicate with them, or request that they email you their resume if they want to continue their application. You can also contact teachers directly using the contact button on their profile page to invite them to apply to your job. This sends them an email with your message so they can apply and/or respond and get back to you. You may want to include a url link to your job posting in your message, or tell the teacher where to find it in search results on the LRNGO jobs page. You can also choose to include your direct email address in the body of the message if you want the teacher to be able to contact you directly. If you have a premium membership, you can also download teacher resumes and contact teachers directly and invite them to apply to your position if you think they may be a good fit. At any time, you can make the choice to ignore an applicant's interest, continue communicating with them through email (either through LRNGO by logging in and messaging or by communicating with them directly outside of LRNGO), or take the next step and schedule a phone conversation or a live video chat. You can also interview via Zoom or other live video chat at any time. Eventually if/when it feels right, you can meet in person. Please remember to take common sense precautions both online and off when meeting someone for the first time. Beware of scams and see our Safety Tips. LRNGO cannot guarantee outcomes or accurate information from teachers, and will not get involved in any way with any questions, negotiations or disputes between you and anyone who may contact or work for you, and cannot otherwise be responsible in any way for the actions of anyone who contacts you or accepts your position, including guaranteeing safety, results, or satisfaction as a result of being contacted or hired. If you contact anyone, search profiles or otherwise use this website, you must abide by the website Terms of Use.
Should I give a teacher my direct email address and communicate outside of LRNGO?
Yes, whenever you are comfortable providing that information. There is no way to pay a teacher directly through LRNGO. LRNGO is a place for employers to find & recruit teachers, then continue the hiring process off site. If the teacher is a paid member, she will be able to click the apply button on your job, and her resume will be sent directly to your email. If she is not, you will need to provide her with your email contact information through LRNGO messaging so she can email her resume to you directly. Please remember to take common sense precautions both online and off, beware of scams and see our Safety Tips.
What if I can't find what I'm looking for?
Keep trying. Depending on the details of your position (and your location if hiring in person) it may take as long as 2-3 months to find exactly the teacher you are looking for. If you have been looking for a while and haven't had any luck or if filling the position is time sensitive, it may be worth hiring a premium matching service to find you someone who is the right fit with a guarantee. Private teacher staffing services like this normally cost anywhere from $500-$1000 for each position filled (ie: for each teacher you hire), and will usually include unlimited educational consulting to advise you about your job proposal.

We use temporary daily limits primarily to prevent unethical recruiting practices and spam, enforce Terms & Conditions, maintain system stability, ensure fair usage for everyone and encourage meaningful interactions over mass automation. Protecting users while safeguarding platform integrity is a high priority. These limits help prevent overwhelming users and the service, leading to better user experience and platform security.

Search Tips
  • If you are searching for teachers to hire from the LRNGO homepage, make sure that the Private Teachers button is selected on the search bar. For very general searches from the homepage search bar, you can leave the subject field blank and search for private teachers by location only. For general searches to find classroom teachers, you may want to consider using a more general subject like "elementary", "high school" or "homeschool". You might also choose subjects that have the word General in parenthesis after the subject name. For instance, searching on the keyword Math (General) will find teachers and tutors who entered math or mathematics as a subject of expertise. Alternatively, you can also leave the location field blank and search by subject only. For instance: when filling online positions, you may want to leave the location field blank so that your search is not limited or focused mainly on your local area instead of nationwide or worldwide.
  • When typing a subject in the input field, use the dropdown box to choose a subject. If you are looking for a specific subject that is not included in the dropdown box, choose the general subject where the specific subject would be listed. (For example: if you are looking for 20th Century History, search for teachers under History.)
  • For very general subjects, choose subjects that have the word general in parenthesis after the subject name. For instance, searching using the keyword Academics (General) will bring up teachers who teach many academic subjects, and searching using the keyword Math (General) will bring up teachers and tutors who listed general math, which may include many kinds of mathematics, as a subject of expertise.
  • For specific subjects or sub-categories not shown, use Advanced Search. First do a regular search, then go to Advanced Search at the right of the search results under the map. Type the specific keyword or keywords you are looking for in the keyword search box, and then click the Search button. If you have trouble finding what you need, you should also Post A Job to attract more teacher applicants. If you do an advanced search and post a job but still can't find what you need or if it is time sensitive, it may be worth hiring a premium matching service to bring you the right teacher with a guarantee.
  • When searching to learn the English language, speaking English as a foreign language, ESL, EFL, ELL, or how to read and write English as another language, choose English. When searching to learn English literature, essay writing, poetry, or anything to improve English as your first language, choose English (Language Arts).
  • If you cannot find a Teacher or Tutor in your suburb or town, try selecting the nearest city in your region and look for teachers who are closest to you. In the case where there are no profiles who teach your subject that are close enough, consider contacting online teacher listings who come up in your search in various locations. If you still can't find what you need or if it is time sensitive, it may be worth hiring a premium matching service to find you the right teacher with a guarantee.
  • Do NOT repeatedly contact teacher profiles who do not respond. Move on to an instructor who is more responsive and deserves your attention. Repeatedly contacting non-responsive profiles or teachers who have stated that they are not interested in your position is against our Terms of Use.
Safety Tips
The overwhelming majority of people that use LRNGO are trustworthy and well-intentioned. Nevertheless, it's very important to take common sense precautions online as you would offline. When meeting someone for the first time, please remember the following:

  • Always insist on meeting in a public or neutral place for the first time and thereafter for as long as you are comfortable. Do not meet in a secluded place or invite strangers you are not comfortable with into your home.
  • If you're going somewhere to meet someone, tell a friend or family member where you're going and take your cell phone along if you have one.
  • Consider having a friend accompany you.
  • Consider conducting a thorough background check at a level that you are comfortable with through a reputable company before actually hiring a teacher, especially if the teacher will be coming into your home. While the incidence level with teachers is lower than with most professions, it is still prudent to make sure that you feel you can fully trust someone before inviting them into your home. LRNGO does not do background checks and is not a background check company, and does not advise or provide recommendations regarding hiring teachers, whether as employees or contractors. Please use caution both online and off when meeting someone for the first time.
  • Trust your instincts. While LRNGO seeks to create a safe place on the Internet to find teachers for learning services, LRNGO does not insure against losses as a result of hiring or contracting any teachers found as a result of using LRNGO, does not mediate disputes between any employers, users or students and any of the teachers listed on or found as a result of using LRNGO, and cannot otherwise be responsible in any way for the actions of anyone listed on or found through LRNGO or guarantee results or satisfaction from any services received as a result of contacting or hiring any of the individuals listed on or found through LRNGO. See more information on how to recognize scams.
FAQs for Free Exchange
What Is this Free Exchange Section?
Is there a subject or activity you can teach? Is there a subject or activity you have always wanted to learn or would like to improve? Search by subject and location to find others near you or online from anywhere in the world, then make a match and meet up to exchange knowledge and skills. For instance: I'll teach you a 1/2 hour of Spanish if you teach me a 1/2 hour of English, or I'll teach you an hour of photography if you teach me an hour of web design.

It may even be possible to teach someone your area of expertise in exchange for them teaching or tutoring your kids. For instance: I'll teach you to code 5 hours a week in exchange for 5 hours of homeschool tutoring for my kids. You can meet one-to-one in a public place to learn from each other, like a library or a cafe, or online using any live video chat (like Zoom). As you become more comfortable, you could also meet at your own location or theirs. Always use caution both online and off when meeting someone for the first time. Please see our Safety Tips.

Maybe someone nearby or online can help you with your interests, and is looking for someone to learn from with skills like you. If you make the right match, it costs you nothing but time—and we have yet to find anyone who can beat the price of free.
Examples & Guidelines
Examples: (fill in your own ideas)

LANGUAGES: If you can help me learn Spanish, I can help you learn Chinese.
HOMEWORK: If you can help me with calculus, I can help you with English literature.
ACTIVITIES: If you can teach me a one hour piano lesson, I can teach you an hour of golf.
HELP: If you can teach me to fix my computer, I can teach you website marketing.
KIDS EDUCATION: If you tutor or teach my kids homeschool, I can teach you computer coding.

Guidelines:

  • If someone contacts you to exchange lessons and does not have a LRNGO.com profile, we encourage you to ask them to create one before you will trade. You can even tell them this is in our guidelines. Tell them you would have to wonder why someone won't create a profile since it's free, and at least then you will have an idea of who you are talking to.
  • Use our messaging system to chat until you feel comfortable enough to meet via video chat, or eventually in person. Before meeting in person, always discuss in detail any questions about knowledge or prior teaching experience, what your goals are, and what is expected from both parties. Always insist on meeting in a public or neutral place for the first lesson or for any lessons thereafter for as long as you are comfortable (see Safety Tips).
  • The idea is to exchange lessons of the same amount of time (ie: 1 hour for 1 hour, or a 1/2 hour for a 1/2 hour). Start with one lesson and see how it goes before you put more on your calendar.
  • If the initial learning exchange turns into regular lessons, don't give two lessons in a row or receive an extra lesson in advance without receiving one in return unless you have a clear understanding of what is expected.
  • Make sure you contact each other as soon as possible if you need to cancel a scheduled lesson or meeting and try to give each other plenty of notice. An emergency may happen once in a while, but nothing will end the deal faster than a no-show.
  • Do NOT contact any user repeatedly about trading lessons if they are not interested.
  • Remember the golden rule and treat others as you would have them treat you.
How do I Search for Users Who Want to Exchange Free Lessons?
The most thorough way to search for Free Exchange partners is to click on Free Exchange in the header. Then use the orange search bar on the Free Exchange page. When you see search results, you can refine your search again at any time by using the search fields at the top. For a quick but less thorough search, you can also search the same way you search for private teachers from the homepage. Go to the LRNGO homepage and change the radio button on the search bar to Free Exchange. Then input a zipcode or subject you want to learn or both. (Note: If you are using this search method and there are no free exchange users who match your search, the results may show private teachers instead. If that is the case, do a more thorough search by clicking on Free Exchange in the header.)
How do I Contact a User for Free Exchange?
If you are a member, you can contact users through the contact form on their profile page. This sends the user a message, and an email notifies them that a message was received so they can login to LRNGO and get back to you. Your profile picture will be included in the message, and the user can click on it to view your profile. When you are logged in, you can message back and forth through the site as much as you like without ever giving out your personal email. (You can also choose to communicate directly and disclose your personal email at any time if you decide you are comfortable enough with the other user to connect outside of the site.) Free users can also use the LRNGO messaging system, but you cannot make initial contact. You can only return and message members who contact you first. Please use precautions and see our Safety Tips.
Can I contact users who are not paid members to invite them to a Free Exchange?
Yes, if you are a paid member. If you are a paid member, you can contact any user through the website whether they are paid members or not, and they can respond to you. If you are not a paid member, you cannot. You can only respond if someone contacts you first.
How do I become a member?
You can become a member at any time by clicking here.
What are the benefits of membership?
You can contact other users first (with a free account you can respond but you cannot initiate contact), receive & send messages without publicly displaying your personal contact information, access the job board, and post or apply to jobs. With Premium level (3 months) membership, you can also apply to unlimited or Featured jobs, contact unlimited users, post classes & articles, receive expedited LRNGO support, apply to Feature your profile, and access 24hr English. If you are a member and you have questions, you can always contact LRNGO at any time for support. (Premium member support is expedited.)
Safety Tips
The overwhelming majority of people that use LRNGO are trustworthy and well-intentioned. Nevertheless, it's very important to take common sense precautions as you normally would online and offline. If someone wants to exchange lessons with you, make sure that they first have a LRNGO profile. When meeting someone for the first time, please remember the following:

  • Don't give out any personal information online.
  • Always insist on meeting in a public or neutral place for the first time, and for lessons thereafter as long as you are comfortable. Do not meet in a secluded place or invite strangers into your home.
  • If you're going somewhere to meet someone, tell a friend or family member where you're going and take your cell phone along if you have one.
  • Consider having a friend accompany you.
  • Trust your instincts. If it seems like a person's main goal isn't really to learn, it probably isn't.

While LRNGO seeks to create a safe place for learning services on the Internet, LRNGO cannot guarantee safety and does not insure against losses from lessons contracted through LRNGO or mediate disputes between any users, students or teachers listed on LRNGO, and cannot otherwise be responsible in any way for the actions of anyone listed on LRNGO or guarantee results or satisfaction from lessons received as a result of contacting any of the individuals listed on LRNGO. Use LRNGO at your own risk.

FAQs for Language Partners
How does it work?
If you can speak a language, you can help someone else who wants to learn or practice that language. Create a profile and list that language under a language you can teach. Then search for others who can teach a language that you want to learn. When you find an exact match, if you are a member, you can contact them through our messaging system and begin a conversation. (If you are a free user, you must wait for a member to contact you first.) Continue talking and exchanging messages through the website. Then when you feel comfortable to do so, arrange to meet online via Zoom or in a public place (for instance, a public library). When you meet, you can teach or help your language partner to practice the language you speak, and in return they can help you with the language you want to learn for the same amount of time.
Is it free?
Language exchange is always free. It is time in exchange for time. However, if you want to hire a teacher instead, click on the Private Instructors tab or the Private Instructors button on the search bar.

Where do we meet?
If you are meeting online, you can use Zoom or Google Meet or any other platform you choose. If you are meeting in person, we recommend a public library as a first choice. If the library is closed, then an appropriate coffee house or a quiet restaurant might be a good choice. Always take common sense precautions and see our Safety tips.
Why a language partner?
Here are five great reasons:

  • 1. It's the quickest way to learn because you practice both listening and speaking at the same time, and are actually "using" the language.
  • 2. It's fun and you can make new friends from different cultures.
  • 3. You can learn real conversation & expressions you don't usually learn in a language class.
  • 4. You don't have to study boring books or homework alone.
  • 5. It's free, and you don't have to change your schedule for classes.
Can you give me an example?
Sure! Jose is from Spain and wants to improve his English. John lives here and wants to improve his Spanish. Sure they can talk to people in these languages, but they don't feel comfortable asking them to correct them or assess how they are doing. What they need to help them learn is real time feedback and guidance. In short, they need to practice with someone who is willing to help them improve and learn. Luckily, they both joined LRNGO and listed in Free Exchange. John searched and found Jose's profile and contacted him through our messaging system and they began to chat. They decided to help each other out and try meeting in person at a local café, speaking ½ hour in English and ½ hour in Spanish. They continued doing this once a week, and both of them improved their language skills immensely. They became friends, learned faster than other methods, and did not have to pay for lessons. A win/win for everyone.
How do I teach?
If you have never taught before, don't worry! Like anything, you learn by doing. Here are some suggestions to get started. These are only general guidelines, feel free to do what works best for you and your language partner. Be sure to ask about their goals and how you can help.

Bring a Notebook & Pen/Pencil
You or your language partner might want to practice what you learned later by yourself, and it can be much easier to remember if you write down a reminder. That doesn't mean you have to write down everything, but a numbered outline of what to practice until you meet again plus anything of particular interest is helpful.

Get Acquainted
After you introduce yourself, you could ask why they are learning your native language, for how long, and what motivates them to learn it. It is always good to ask someone about their goals. Then you could ask how often and in what situations they speak, and to describe their first speaking encounter with a native speaker. Ask them in which area of the city they live and if they like it. Then you could both talk about what you do and how you enjoy your spare time.

Have Fun
People often remember things they find amusing or learn during a pleasant experience, so it can be fun to find an exchange partner that has similar interests and sense of humor. Also, it can be easier to remember a word or expression you've heard in an amusing situation specific to a story, time or place.

Topics
If your language partner is from another country, it's always interesting to learn about each other's culture. Comparing the differences between the two countries can be not only interesting, but also helpful to acquiring vocabulary and understanding how it's used. Here are some other suggestions for topics of conversation: travel, ordering food, describing a person, shopping, money and items at home.
What if I can't find anyone near me who is a match?
Keep checking back. If you tell your friends to signup and they tell their friends, it increases everyone's chances. We are just getting started and more & more people are signing up daily. You can also find users in all locations worldwide who want to find language partners to learn from online using Zoom or any online video chat. These profiles will have an icon that says online lessons on their profile.
How do I increase my chances of finding a partner?
Whether you are a free user or a member, the best thing you can do to increase your chances of finding a partner is to complete your profile and put up a friendly looking picture. Completing your profile means adding your picture and writing something about yourself. Here are the steps:

  • 1. Login with your email and password
  • 2. Click on Edit My Profile on the left
  • 3. Go to Step 3 page and write something about yourself in the About Me box.
  • 4. Scroll down and upload your picture. (Your picture must be of your actual adult face.)
  • 5. Click the Submit button.

Now your profile is complete with your picture and can be seen in search results. If you are a paid member, you can make initial contact by contacting other users first. You can also access free language course links when you log in. If you are learning English, you will see the links on your MyLRNGO page when you login. If you are a paid member learning another language, login and go to the www.LRNGO.com homepage. Then click on Community in the header at the top. Then click on Language Exchange to go to the language exchange homepage. Then scroll down to the very bottom where it says Free Language Courses. You can also go to our CLASSifieds section and search for specific languages to view online courses.
How do I get access to free language courses?
If you become a member, you will have access to free language course links. Members who are learning English will have free access to the 24HrEnglish course and American English Sounds and you will see the links on your My LRNGO page when you login. For other languages, after you log in, go to the www.LRNGO.com homepage and click on Community in the header at the top. Then click on Language Exchange to go to the language exchange homepage. Then scroll down to the very bottom where it says Free Language Courses. You can also go to our CLASSifieds section and search for specific languages to view online courses.

What about safety?
The overwhelming majority of people who are looking for language partners are trustworthy and well-intentioned. Nevertheless, it's always very important to take common sense precautions both online and off, as you normally would when meeting someone for the first time. Please remember the following:

  • Continue exchanging messages through the website without divulging your email address until you are comfortable communicating or meeting outside of the website. Then use online video chat if/when you are comfortable.
  • If someone sends a message to you and does not have a LRNGO profile, tell them to create one before you talk further. Let them know it is recommended in our guidelines.
  • When meeting in person, always insist on meeting in a public or neutral place for the first time and thereafter for as long as you are comfortable. Do not meet in a secluded place or invite strangers into your home.
  • If you're going somewhere to meet someone for the first time, tell a friend or family member where you're going and take your cell phone. Consider having a friend drop you off or accompany you and wait while you meet.
  • Trust your instincts. If it seems like a person's goal isn't really to learn another language, it probably isn't. While LRNGO seeks to create a safe place for learning on the Internet, LRNGO cannot guarantee safety, mediate disputes between users or language partners or insure against losses from lessons or interactions, and cannot otherwise be responsible in any way for the actions of anyone listed on LRNGO or guarantee results or satisfaction as a result of contacting any of the individuals listed.
