Instructional Dean of Humanities – Middle School

Our innovative, high-performing network of schools is seeking a full-time middle school Instructional Dean of Humanities with an immediate start date. The Dean will help ensure students receive rigorous, engaging, college-preparatory instruction while contributing to a positive, structured, and achievement-focused school culture. The Instructional Dean will work closely with the Principal and Teaching & Learning team to develop and implement high-quality, standards-aligned curriculum and instructional strategies. Responsibilities include analyzing student achievement data, establishing measurable academic goals, identifying interventions, supporting special education and co-curricular needs, and coordinating schoolwide instructional initiatives. The Dean will maintain a visible presence in classrooms, help strengthen school culture and character development, communicate academic concerns with families, and recognize student achievement.

A major focus of the position is teacher coaching and professional development. The Dean will conduct classroom observations, provide actionable feedback, support teachers with lesson and unit planning, classroom management, assessment practices, and instructional effectiveness, and evaluate teacher performance throughout the year. The role also includes organizing professional development, supporting teacher recruitment and hiring, assisting with schedules and student placements, ensuring report cards and progress reports are completed, and teaching classes when coverage or professional development needs arise.

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree, at least five years of full-time classroom teaching experience, and at least one year of experience managing adults or coaching teachers. Successful applicants should demonstrate a record of improving student achievement, developing academic programs, leading teacher teams, and using data to guide instructional decisions. Strong communication, analytical, organizational, leadership, judgment, adaptability, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with a commitment to a mission-driven, collaborative school environment.

The position is based in NYC and requires travel to NYC schools.
