Special Education Teacher

Seeking a dedicated special education teacher to support students with a wide range of learning, cognitive, emotional, and physical disabilities. The teacher will develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs), provide in-class and small-group support in subjects such as reading, writing, and math, and deliver content instruction based on students’ accommodations and required service minutes. This role also serves as an important connection between school and home, helping students with the greatest needs and their families succeed academically and personally.

The special education teacher will assess student skills and progress, create and regularly update IEPs, analyze academic data, and adjust instruction to meet individual learning needs. Responsibilities include implementing state standards and IDEA curriculum, providing formal and informal assessments, maintaining accurate gradebooks, submitting lesson plans in advance, and communicating student progress with families and school staff on a regular basis. Teachers will also facilitate meetings, support student transitions between grade levels and after graduation, and provide tutoring or additional academic support when needed.

In addition to instruction, the teacher will establish a consistent classroom behavior management system aligned with campus expectations while helping students develop character and a strong sense of community. The role requires close collaboration with students, families, teachers, counselors, administrators, and other school staff, as well as participation in weekly meetings, manager check-ins, school duties, professional development, and schoolwide events. Teachers are expected to work a minimum of 40+ hours per week and may be assigned additional after-school tutoring or Saturday school based on student needs.

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution and a valid Texas Special Education certification; previous special education classroom experience is strongly preferred. Candidates should have strong knowledge of curriculum and instruction, effective classroom and behavior-management skills, excellent communication and organizational abilities, and experience supporting academically at-risk students. The starting salary for teachers with no prior experience is $63,500, with potential stipends of $500–$4,000 based on certifications, credentials, and campus leadership, plus performance-based compensation, additional hourly opportunities and employee benefits.
