English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher

Reporting to the Academic Dean, the ELL Teacher will lead English language instruction and collaborate closely with classroom teachers and school staff to support students who are developing English proficiency. The ideal candidate will have experience working with English Language Learners, assisting with lesson planning, and advising teachers on effective instructional practices. This educator should be knowledgeable about current research in second-language acquisition and ELL pedagogy, attentive to students’ developmental needs and well-being, and flexible enough to support different teaching assignments across the school.

The ELL Teacher will integrate language-development standards into the daily curriculum and use a variety of instructional approaches, including co-teaching, small-group instruction, and individualized support. Lessons will align with Common Core and ELL Language Standards and will be developed through backward planning, with appropriate differentiation and documentation of lesson plans, assignments, syllabi, and rubrics. The teacher will monitor academic and language progress using ELL assessments, schoolwide data, exit tickets, and other daily measures, then use those findings to adjust instruction and develop language acquisition support plans for students.

Additional responsibilities include administering and coordinating required language proficiency and academic assessments, supporting student placement and program-exit decisions, preparing quarterly progress reports, and maintaining consistent communication with students’ families. The teacher will participate in family conferences and collaborate with grade-level teams to analyze data, address individual student needs, and improve instructional practices. For students who are dually identified as ELL and receiving special education services, the teacher will complete required compliance documentation, contribute ELL summaries for IEP meetings, and attend IEP, Section 504, and other meetings related to student support and legal compliance.

Applicants must have a minimum bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree is preferred. ESOL and/or special education certification and bilingual Spanish proficiency are preferred, along with at least two years of teaching experience demonstrating improved student achievement. Strong written and verbal communication skills, openness to feedback, collaboration, and the ability to work effectively with diverse students and families are essential. The successful candidate will create a warm, inclusive, and well-managed learning environment, maintain high expectations, build trusting relationships, participate in professional development and school meetings, while contributing positively to the broader school community. The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $100,000, and additional compensation is added for incoming teachers with Master's degrees and NYS Special Education certifications.
