$200,000 per year
A private family in Jupiter, Florida, is seeking an exceptional full-time Governess to support their 12-year-old twins, a boy and a girl, as they transition into their teenage years. This is a governess-style position with childcare as the primary responsibility, focused on providing academic guidance, life-skills development, independence, and meaningful companionship. The ideal candidate will be a mature, proactive presence who can build a strong relationship with both children while encouraging confidence, responsibility, and good habits.
The Governess will manage their daily school transportation with drives of approximately 30 minutes each way, as well as after-school activities such as tennis. The family is looking for someone genuinely active and sporty who will encourage the twins to spend time outdoors and who can participate in physical activities with them. Supporting homework and academics is also highly valued. A major part of this role will involve helping the children develop practical life skills; through age-appropriate chores, responsibility, organization, personal development and increasing independence, rather than simply supervising daily routines.
When the twins are at school or otherwise unavailable, the Governess may assist with light household responsibilities, including cooking, cleaning, laundry, and paying or organizing bills. However, the family would prefer the successful candidate to prioritize meaningful time with the children over general housekeeping whenever possible. The Governess will work as part of a small household team, making strong communication, organization, reliability, and the ability to coordinate effectively with others important.
This position is live-out, although the family may provide separate accommodation, such as a nearby apartment, with the details to be determined after selecting the right candidate. The twins speak both English and Spanish, but Spanish language skills are not required. Applicants must have legal authorization to work in the United States and hold a full, clean driving license with confidence in regular school-run driving.
Governess candidates should be energetic, well organized, dependable, proactive, and experienced in working with pre-teens or multiple children. A background in tutoring or academic support is strongly preferred, as well as previous experience caring for children of a similar age. (Previous experience with twins is a plus.) Excellent, verifiable references are required, and the successful candidate should be available to begin relatively soon, since this opportunity is available ASAP for the current school year. This position offers a salary starting at $200,000 per year for approximately 40 hours per week, and requires some on-call flexibility.
