$320,000 per year
A prominent international family based in Northwest London is seeking an exceptional, highly experienced private teacher to take on a long-term tutor and educational mentor role beginning in January 2027. The initial commitment is expected to run through August 31, 2029, with the possibility of continuing throughout the student’s remaining school years. The position will focus primarily on a bright 12-year-old boy preparing for the competitive 13+ independent-school admissions process following an unsuccessful 11+ application. This role combines academic tutoring, educational planning, executive-function development, mentoring, confidence building, and preparation for the British independent-school system. The teacher/tutor will also provide some GCSE Mathematics support to the student’s older sister, who is currently studying A Levels.
The student has strong mathematical instincts, sound reasoning ability, and clear potential, but significant weaknesses in literacy, including reading age, comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, written expression, and independent reading. These challenges may be affecting his performance across subjects such as history, geography, and science. The family has received differing opinions regarding possible dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning differences, and the tutor/teacher will be expected to understand how the student learns best while distinguishing academic gaps from issues involving confidence, motivation, emotional wellbeing, or previous educational experiences. The successful candidate will systematically address weaknesses while preparing him for 13+ requirements and helping him become a more confident and capable learner.
This is a substantial teaching and mentoring role rather than simply conventional tutoring. The family is particularly interested in a mature, positive male role model who can establish a trusting relationship with the student and help him rebuild resilience, self-belief, motivation, and enthusiasm for learning. The educator will develop executive-function skills including organisation, planning, time management, self-monitoring, independent study, and personal responsibility. Experience supporting boys with academic setbacks, confidence challenges, dyslexia, ADHD, executive-function difficulties, or autism-spectrum presentations is advantageous, as is familiarity with the Davis approach or other non-medical learning strategies. The tutor/teacher will work closely with the family and school, monitor progress, communicate regularly with parents, and coordinate additional educational support when necessary. Some GCSE Mathematics tutoring will also be provided to the student's older sister.
The position is primarily based in London, with work generally taking place after school from Sunday through Thursday during term time, with Friday and Saturday as days off. Schedules may vary according to school, examinations, and family requirements. School holidays will involve a fuller schedule focused on intensive academic work, revision, enrichment, educational outings, and life-skills development. The tutor will receive a minimum of nine weeks' annual vacation, arranged with the family, and will not be expected to work through Christmas, New Year, or other major holidays. The family may travel to Saudi Arabia and elsewhere during school holidays, with suitable accommodation and reasonable work-related travel expenses provided. The successful candidate should be professional, discreet, energetic, proactive, physically fit, healthy, and a non-smoker, with a genuine commitment to helping young people become confident and independent. Salary is £243,000 GBP per annum (appx. $320,000 USD) with accommodations provided. The initial contract begins January 2027 and is renewable annually.
