JOB DESCRIPTION

A warm and active family in Houston, Texas, is seeking an experienced private educator to oversee the full-time education of two bright, energetic boys, ages 6 and 9, beginning in fall 2027. The family is transitioning from traditional private school to a personalized educational program that provides individualized instruction, academic rigor, and flexibility for extensive domestic and international travel.

This is a career educator position focused on long-term academic achievement, with a structured, classroom-style learning environment that maintains consistency and high expectations regardless of location. The ultimate goal is to prepare both boys for admission to a competitive Texas private high school around ninth grade and, eventually, highly selective colleges and universities.

Both children are social, athletic, creative, and curious, with particular strengths in mathematics and reading skills currently around grade-level expectations. The older boy is outgoing and eager to please, while the younger is more strong-willed and benefits from engaging, purposeful instruction. The educator must build trusting relationships, adapt to their distinct personalities and learning styles, and foster academic confidence without compromising expectations.

Experience supporting ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, and executive-functioning challenges is important. The educational program should develop strong foundations in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and history, alongside critical thinking, organization, independent learning, and study skills. Latin and Spanish should also be incorporated, and the ability to also provide music and arts instruction would be a plus. Extracurricular opportunities, including theater, choir, soccer, and lacrosse, will remain an important part of the boys’ development.

The selected educator will independently design and deliver a comprehensive, individualized curriculum aligned with Texas homeschool requirements and the family's long-term academic objectives. Responsibilities include lesson planning, curriculum selection, differentiated instruction, identifying learning gaps, accelerating academic strengths, assessing progress, maintaining portfolios and required educational records, and communicating regularly with parents.

The educator will collaborate with tutors and specialists as needed, introduce age-appropriate standardized testing strategies, and eventually support high school admissions and college preparation. Travel experiences, museums, cultural activities, history, and geography should complement—not replace—a consistent academic foundation.

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in education or a related field, with a master’s degree strongly preferred, and possess substantial teaching or private education experience, strong literacy and mathematics expertise, and excellent curriculum-development skills. Private-school admissions or high school preparation experience is highly valued. The ideal candidate is warm, patient, organized, emotionally intelligent, and confident in managing two learners simultaneously, with a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and willingness to travel extensively.

This is a full-time position based primarily in Houston, with significant domestic and international travel and a schedule that does not follow a traditional school-year or summer calendar. Time off will be coordinated around the academic program, family travel, and the educator’s schedule. Local candidates are preferred, although relocation assistance is available for an exceptional applicant.

Compensation starts at $150,000 annually, depending on experience, with medical benefits, paid time off, paid holidays, bonus opportunities, and retirement benefits. The anticipated start date is Labor Day 2027. The family seeks a minimum one-year commitment, with the possibility of a longer-term partnership.

Finalists will be asked to prepare and deliver a sample lesson to both boys to demonstrate their teaching approach, communication skills, and ability to differentiate instruction. Comprehensive screening will include reference and education verification, criminal background and driving record checks, drug screening, and social media screening.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated educator to create a rigorous, personalized learning experience, travel with a family, and make a lasting contribution to two children’s academic growth, independence, and future success.
