Hi, my name is Evgeny Terekhin. I live in Friendswood, TX. I hold a Masters Degree in Linguistics specializing in English and German as a foreign language. I am a certified teacher of English and German with excellent command of the English grammar, syntax, and vocabulary. I taught English for 5 years at a public school. I worked as a language consultant/main Russian linguist for HP for 3 years and I have 23 years of translation/interpretation experience as a freelancer.
As a person who has learned English as foreign language, I know all the challenges that a student might have in studying English. And I know exactly how to teach English grammar, tenses, vocabulary and accent reduction to a non-English speaker.
I have 15 years of tutoring experience working with children and adults. I have taught English as a foreign language in Russia, and I have experience teaching STAAR reading, writing, revision and editing, SAT content comprehension, SAT reading and writing. I also teach Russian providing 16 power lessons of my own design which help the student to master the basics of Russian grammar, vocabulary and conversation.
I believe in the so-called communicative approach which basically means that you learn to speak before you learn the rules. Believe it or not, that's how all the children learn their native language. All they do is hear and repeat. So language is not so much an academic study as it is a muscle trained by repetition.
I also teach guitar and voice (singing). Took piano as a child for 3 years, played acoustic guitar for 20 years, led Christian worship for 15 years, sang in folklore/ethnic fusion groups for 5 years. Studied vocals at the VOX vocal studio in Omsk, Russia. Studied academic vocals at Novosibirsk State University Choir. Performing Experience: played acoustic guitar for 20 years, won contests for the best guitar accompaniment in Russia, recorded several songs ( s www.youtube.com/watch?v=gccVFnUihQs), performed at multiple national folklore festivals as a lead singer, performed as a lead singer and guitarist at the Berdsk Fall Concert in 2015. I have a mild low baritone, and I love singing in English, Russian, French, and Italian.
