My passion is teaching and learning languages and my qualifications include 20 years' teaching (including 7 years as an EFL teacher in Santiago, Spain), 11 years as a Spanish teacher in Spring Branch ISD, a Master's degree in Spanish, Texas teacher certifications in Spanish, ESL, and Gifted and Talented, and several years' work experience in bilingual Spanish positions, including at the Consulate of Spain in Houston. However I enjoy tutoring individual adults and teens and working with small groups the most. Since I didn't start learning a foreign language until my twenties, I know how difficult it is to start studying a language that late. But there is nothing more fun for me than helping a person get past the awkwardness and arrive at a more advanced, fluent stage in the language, whether that's performing well on the Spanish AP Language test or simply being able to converse more fluently in English or Spanish at work.
For individual tutoring, I would mostly like to focus on the Spring Branch area. However I am travelling to Bay City on Tuesdays and Thursdays to work with some ESL students, so on those days I could add possibly add some students along my route (Sugar Land, Richmond, Needville) in late afternoon or early evening. Contact me for prices. I can discount for groups, multiple clients in the same general area, or multiple classes paid in advance. I am also studying French and Portuguese on my own and would consider an exchange with a native or advanced speaker of those languages. As I am also transitioning from a full-time job with a school district to being self-employed, I would also exchange lessons for help with my taxes and/or other issues, like finding affordable health insurance. If that is something you can help me with, please contact me in August or early September 2014.
