My aim is to support children in their educational journey by creating a personal and engaging learning environment that celebrates each child's unique strengths, talents, ideas, and learning needs. I have extensive experience with raising and educating children. I raised four children, had the amazing opportunity to homeschool our two youngest boys, and taught in an elementary classroom for over nine years.
I am patient and kind, full of energy, a team player, and hardworking. A passion of mine is learning and sharing my love of learning with children. I believe that every moment can be a learning experience, and the world is the ideal classroom. Exploring the world and using it as a large classroom is an amazing way to teach and mentor children. I have a natural talent for creating engaging, hands-on learning experiences for children of all ages. My favorite subject to teach is reading because not only is it an essential life skill, but it opens many “Worlds” to children as their reading skills grow and they are introduced to a variety of subjects through books. I also enjoy teaching science and STEM because these subjects encompass all other subjects and are a wonderfully fun way to teach critical thinking skills, perseverance, writing, reading, and math. I have enjoyed the opportunity of being a classroom teacher, and I will forever cherish the experiences I had with students from Kindergarten through 8th grade.
I have a Master's in Science Curriculum and Instruction, along with a Bachelor of Arts Educational Studies in Elementary Education. The capstone project for my Master’s degree was a research study on teaching students with ADHD in elementary classrooms, with the subsequent development of a Professional Development training program for educators.
I highly value continued education, therefore I often take enrichment courses and I am always reading. In 2023, I completed the following courses: ADHD Management, Principles of the Montessori Method, Introduction to Child Psychology, and Educational Psychology and Special Education. In Addition, I completed the Stop the Silence Certification (Child Sexual Abuse Education, Prevention and Mitigation). Thus far in 2024 I have completed Reading 101, a Reading Rockets teacher training course focusing on teaching the fundamentals of reading to new and emerging readers. I also have current CPR and First Aid certifications.
I know that my love of children, my education, my background as a classroom teacher, my experience as a homeschool mom, and having raised four children of my own will all contribute to a fun, loving, and positive educational environment for the children where I am given the opportunity to serve as a private tutor/educator. I seek a long-term position where my experience and talents will benefit the children for as long as needed.
