As a 2007 graduate of Western Michigan University and a 2010 graduate of Marygrove College, I have student teaching experience on the first, second and fifth grade level, as well as teaching experience in preschool, second grade, fourth grade, and sixth grade. My experiences have taken place in a variety of settings, those being; the American system, urban, rural, suburban, highly Hispanic and ELL, affluent, at risk and the British System.
As of May 2022, I completed my 16th year of teaching. Ten of those years were spent in fourth grade, one in sixth grade, one in preschool, four in second grade and one in multiple grades spanning PK4 - High School as a Campus Minister and Religion Teacher Specialist. I’ve had the opportunity to teach in California, North Carolina, New York, Michigan and Grand Cayman Island. In May of 2022 I concluded my academic year as an RE Specialist and Campus Minister in the Grand Cayman Island (British System).
Upon coming home last year from a year of being on mission in teaching outside of the country, I accepted a job in higher education in June. It has been a wonderful experience but has shown me that my greatest joy in teaching is in lower elementary. After spending many years teaching fourth grade, I had a chance to teach second grade and discovered how wonderful that grade is. I have thought deeply about working in a community where I can share my time and talent and aid in creating a calm, caring, creative and kind environment . As a teacher, I work tremendously hard to serve students well. I’d like to commit my hard work to not only the minds of students, but to their hearts and spirits as well.
I consider the experiences I’ve had to be irreplaceable. My passion has always been loving and serving people. Attaining a position in a small community that values service, kindness, creativity, love and commitment to the whole person would be an honor.
