I am a passionate educator with a deep love for classical Christian education, literature, the liberal arts. I currently serve as a high school English teacher, teaching 9th-grade College Preparatory English and 10th-grade Special Education English. Throughout my teaching career, I have also taught 11th/12th grade English, 9th-grade Pre-AP English, 7th grade English, and Creative Writing in a public school setting. In addition to my classroom experience, I have worked as a private tutor for a variety of subjects, including algebra, biology, world history, personal finance, and Latin.
My own education strongly shaped my love for classical Christian education. I attended a private classical Christian school from kindergarten through 12th grade, where I developed a lasting passion for the classics, rhetoric, apologetics, Latin, and Socratic discussion. I am particularly comfortable teaching Latin and have personally earned Summa Cum Laude recognition on the National Latin Exam. I love helping students move beyond simply memorizing information toward asking thoughtful questions, making connections, defending ideas, and pursuing wisdom.
I hold a B.A. in English with minors in Biology and Secondary Education, as well as an M.Ed. in English Education. I also hold Tennessee teaching licenses in English 6–12 and Biology 6–12. My background in both English and science allows me to approach education from an interdisciplinary perspective and to help students see the connections between subjects rather than viewing each discipline as an isolated area of study.
Although I have found great joy in my career as a public school educator, my husband and I will soon be relocating to the Raleigh area for his work, and I am excited to explore an educational setting that allows me to share my faith, exercise my creativity, and pursue truly individualized instruction. I deeply respect the important role public education serves, but my experiences as a teacher have also strengthened my conviction that children flourish when their education can be tailored to their individual strengths, needs, interests, and pace of learning.
I am especially drawn to the classical model because of its emphasis on the progression from grammar to logic to rhetoric. I believe this approach gives students a strong foundation not only in knowledge, but also in how to think, reason, communicate, and pursue truth. My ultimate goal is to create thoughtful and intellectually curious learners.
At the heart of my educational philosophy is the belief that Christ is the center of education. Every subject, from literature and history to science and mathematics, provides an opportunity to cultivate wonder, pursue truth, and develop a deeper love for God and His creation. I would be honored to partner with parents, in loco parentis, in guiding their children toward truth, wisdom, virtue, and a lifelong love of learning.
One of my favorite parts of teaching is exploring curriculum and finding creative ways to enrich it. I enjoy building thoughtful supplements, adapting lessons to individual learners, and creating experiences that make students genuinely excited to learn. My hope as an educator is not simply to help students become successful academically, but to help them become curious, articulate, discerning, virtuous young people who recognize learning as both a gift and a pursuit of truth. While I hold my students to high expectations, I want them to view learning as fun opportunity to expand their horizons.
