Laurie has a passion for learning and has had the joy of working in many roles within multiple career fields, including as an actor, costume designer, salesperson, theater teacher, early childhood teacher, AMI Montessori 4th-6th year assistant teacher, and certified EC-6th grade public school teacher. She possesses a Bachelor’s in Theatre and received her Texas Teaching Certification in EC-6th grade Core Subjects and K-12 Theatre. She has also completed her ESL certification and the Texas HB3 Reading Academy. As a result of many life experiences, this instructor discovered how metacognition and executive functioning have helped her achieve more peace, balance, and satisfaction in life. Equipping future generations with the knowledge to create meaning out of their lives is a guiding principle for this instructor. As a tutor, she gets to know her students’ interests, needs, learning preferences, and styles. She believes in teaching by personal example and will oversee, guide, and direct her students by showing them how to complete a task and then gradually release students to replicate the skill on their own. As students gain independence, this instructor incorporates the Montessori philosophy of “acting as a guide” to help students develop autonomy and a personal passion for learning. One of her partner teachers describes her teaching style as “energetic and positive.” One of her previous teaching supervisors states, “She was thoughtful in how she approached each child and situation.”
