Hello to students and your parents. I am a historian who graduated with a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University. My life has been adventurous, not typical of college professors. I began teaching college history in 1968 but was interrupted by the draft during the Vietnam War. After serving my time of 4 years I was unable to return to that career because colleges don't honor gaps caused by military service. I worked in the largest agency in Georgia for 32 years, learning skills and having leadership experiences with top people in government that being a history teacher doesn't usually provide. I taught history part-time in colleges when my travel schedule allowed it. After retiring, I began teaching American and World Histories at Georgia Gwinnett College part-time (state retirees can't teach fulltime) and working extra by grading Advanced Placement history tests each June and, during the pandemic, teaching children 9-17 years old on Outschool. I look forward to spending late afternoons, evenings, and weekends (I am not in the classroom mornings and early afternoons) with motivated young people around the world. During the pandemic on Outschool, I taught students from every state, from most European countries, from Mexico, Brazil, Israel, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and mainland China. I am motivated by dealing with inquiring young minds from all over the world.
