I want to teach you and to write for you about the many subjects I know well. My PhD is in history, my master’s in library science and my BA in economics, and I have worked as a tenured associate professor at one of the largest academic libraries and universities in the United States. The languages I speak and write every day are English, Russian, German and Czech. I can also read all the Slavic languages. My research and my 57 publications, many peer-reviewed, are about American immigration and ethnic history, the history of Central and Eastern Europeans in America and Russia (Czechs, Germans, others), the global information revolution, and online information sources for self-education in Russia, Germany and elsewhere in Europe and the world, including libraries, databases, lecture platforms, conferences, talk shows, mass media and social media. I came to America from a refugee camp after starting school in Eastern Europe, and I have lived and worked there and in Germany, Russia, Japan and Guyana. I enjoy teaching and writing, and I do them both with passion, clarity and humor.
