It isn't just LRNGO that offers an alternative revenue source for ESL or EFL teachers who want to work for themselves tutoring part-time. With the cuts to the education budget, ESL teaching jobs can be hard to come by, but for those who are willing to get a bit more creative, there are still some out there. Schools have to economize, so teaching jobs are likely to go to those who can do double duty, such as teach sports, or music, as well as an academic subject.
While you are waiting for your ideal opening, take the teaching jobs that come to you, in order to gain experience. For example, teach sports at summer camps, be a substitute teacher in your school district, or work in a private school. There are also teaching jobs to be filled in after school tutoring programs and companies. While this work may not always be full time, it does progress you along the path to your goal of being a full time educator.
Teaching jobs are also available overseas. For those willing to be away from home, it can be an ideal way to earn income as well as enhance your income. And of course, there is the exciting opportunity for travel. You can find these teaching jobs online or from ESL agencies.
You can also find jobs to teach sports at community centers, resorts, gyms and after school centers.
Always begin your search and application for teaching jobs as far in advance as possible. Most schools hire before the new school year begins, so try and send your resume out as early as November. The more flexible you are, the easier it will be to find a fulfilling position.
